As an SCFD#10 Volunteer, you can expect honesty, trust, loyalty, and respect and that our members and the organization as a whole will look out for your safety and well being. Here’s what we expect in return:
Volunteer Firefighters
Role:
Volunteer Firefighters are assigned to a specific station, reporting to that station’s officer(s). They may be assigned to work shifts at stations other than the one to which they are assigned.

Note: Required for Neighborhood, Reserve and Resident Volunteer Firefighters
Qualifications
- Be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Pass a criminal background check
- High school graduate or hold a GED certificate
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Meet minimum health and physical fitness standards and pass a medical exam
Responsibilities
- Maintain active status in regards to training and incident response as per SOP.
- Respond to emergency incidents within the scope of their training and abilities as per his/her assignment.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of the streets, hydrants, static water sources, and target hazards in the district.
- Possess thorough knowledge of the operation of the apparatus and equipment to which they are assigned.
- Maintain and care for all equipment assigned to them, their station, and their apparatus.
- Participate in company inspections, public education activities, and other non emergency District functions.
- Operate and communicate within their assigned chain of command.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Training Expectations
- Complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) required courses (IS700 and I-100) prior to the start of the Recruit Structural Academy.
- Successful completion of District structural and wildland academies or equivalents.
- Build their knowledge, skills, and abilities beyond that of a basic firefighter.
- Advance their training to the level of a driver within 24 months of membership (this may be waived by the Fire Chief).
- Work towards NWCG Wildland Firefighter 1 (Squad Boss).
- Advance inability and responsibility to positions of Crew Leader and/or Station Officer.
- Attain and maintain appropriate level EMS of certification (minimum of First Aid, with an option of EMT).
Reserve Volunteer Firefighters must meet the following requirements in addition to those above:
- Acquire and maintain an EMT-B certification (or higher) within the first 12 months of membership.
- Be assigned to a minimum of one rotating shift (or equivalent).
Resident Volunteer Firefighters must meet the following requirements in addition to those above:
- Acquire and maintain an EMT-B certification (or higher) within the first 12 months of membership.
- Become qualified to drive and operate all apparatus at their assigned station within 18 months of membership.
- Be assigned to a minimum of two rotating shifts (or equivalent).
Support Members
Role:
Support Services Volunteers fill a critical response and general assistance need through a variety of opportunities to be involved. Support Services Members drive support vehicles to emergency incidents. They fill air bottles and assist in rehabilitating our firefighters by providing nourishment and hydration at incident scenes. They drive our bus to training activities, perform monthly truck checks, and participate in public education events. Additional opportunities are available for those interested in driving water tenders and serving as pump operators at both structure and wildland incidents.
You already have many of the skills we are looking for including a desire to give back to your community. We provide all the free training you need to be successful at serving.
You do not have to live within Fire District #10 boundaries.

- Meet minimum health and physical fitness standards specific to Support Services Volunteers to include a medical physical prior to joining the District.
- Hold and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of initial and ongoing Support Services Volunteers training.
- Maintain active status in regards to training and incident response activity levels as per District Administrative Policy.
- Attain and maintain appropriate level EMS of certification (minimum of First Aid/CPR/AED as per WAC standards for firefighters, with the option of EMT).
- Complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) required courses (IS700 and I‐100).
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency incidents within the scope of their training and abilities as per his/her assignment. The primary responsibility is to provide firefighter rehabilitation and support at emergency scenes.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of the streets in the district.
- Possess thorough knowledge of the operation of the apparatus and equipment to which they are assigned.
- Maintain and care for all equipment assigned to them, the Support Services Team, and any apparatus used.
- Complete the Driver’s training program (including Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention training) prior to operating apparatus.
- Attend training outside of the normal Support Services Volunteer program in order to maintain any additional qualifications and/or certification the individual may have (i.e. drivers training refresher, EMT OTEP, wildland firefighting refresher).
- Operate and communicate within their assigned chain of command.
- Perform non‐emergency support functions such as training, public education, and special events.
- Perform other such duties as assigned.
Support Services Volunteers are Encouraged to
- Participate in company inspections, public education activities, and other non‐ emergency District functions.
- Have reliable transportation available to facilitate transportation to and from District incidents and other functions.
- Assist in other District activities and/or projects as available.
