A FEW WORDS ABOUT FIREWORKS The 4th of July is coming up and there are a few important reminders to remember. There are only a few cities or towns within Spokane County that do allow fire works to be sold or discharged. However, one thing a lot of citizens donšt understand is where they can discharge them. The same towns that sell consumer fireworks have ordinances in effect as to when consumer fire works can be sold and /or discharged. It Is unlawful for any person to purchase, ignite, discharge, use or explode any consumer fireworks within the unincorporated area of Spokane County. The person(s) found responsible for any fire related incident or property destruction caused by fireworks or illegal activity may be charged for full cost recovery for all responders and property damage caused. This includes but not limited to the entire area known as the West Plains of Spokane County which includes Spokane County Fire Districts 3, 5, & 10. Any Person in violation of the consumer fire works law of Spokane county shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction there of shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for the maximum term fixed by the court of no more than 90 days, or by a fine in an amount fixed by the court of not more than one thousand dollars or both such imprisonment and fine. (Per Spokane County res. 92-1518(part), 1992. Fireworks that may be obtained by the general public are referred to as "consumer fireworks". Definition: consumer fireworks means any device designed to produce visible / audible effects by combustion and which must comply with the construction, chemical composition and labeling regulations of the United States consumer product safety commission as set forth in 16 CFR (code of federal regulations), Parts 1500,1507 and including some small devices designed to produce audible effects such as whistling ground or aerial devices. |
